The Toyota Taisor enters the market as a direct competitor to the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, while also challenging popular models like the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Nissan Magnite, and Renault Kiger in the Indian market. Notably, the price gap between the 1.2-litre engine variants of these models can reach up to Rs. 25,000. Interestingly, in the case of the 1.0-litre turbo variants, the price difference narrows significantly to just Rs. 1000 between the Fronx and the Taisor.

 

Today, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) introduced the Toyota Taisor compact SUV to the Indian market. The Taisor, essentially a rebranded version of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, marks the sixth vehicle to emerge from the collaboration between Maruti and Toyota. Prospective buyers can secure their Taisor either through online booking or by visiting the nearest Toyota dealership. Deliveries are scheduled to commence in May 2024.

Toyota Taisor vs Maruti Fronx: variant line-up and price

 

Maruti Suzuki offers the Fronx in five trims – Sigma, Delta, Delta Plus, Zeta, and Alpha. As for the Taisor, the 1.2-litre NA engine is available in E, S, and S Plus variants, with prices ranging from Rs 7.73 lakh to Rs 9.52 lakh. The 1.0-litre engine comes in G and V variants, priced between Rs 10.55 lakh and Rs 13.03 lakh (all prices ex-showroom). The Maruti Fronx is priced between Rs 8.7-15.25 lakh (ex-showroom). Comparatively, the Toyota Taisor is priced at Rs 51,000 to Rs 61,000 higher than the Maruti Fronx, depending on the variant. While there’s a price difference of up to Rs. 25,000 in the 1.2-litre engine variants, surprisingly, the 1.0-litre turbo variants have just a Rs 1000 difference between the Fronx and the Taisor.

 

The Toyota Taisor and the Fronx share identical features across their entire range. Both SUVs come equipped with a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system featuring wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, connected car technology, automatic climate control, over-the-air (OTA) updates, automatic LED headlamps with DRLs, a wireless charger, tilt and telescopic adjustment for the steering wheel, a 6-speaker sound system, semi-digital cluster, push-button start, rear AC vents, Cruise Control, Head-up display, 360-degree camera, and more. Additionally, in terms of safety, both the Taisor and Fronx boast six airbags, an electronic stability program (ESP), hill-hold assist, ABS with EBD, and ISOFIX child seat anchorages.

 

Both the Taisor and Fronx share identical engine and gearbox options. They feature a reliable 1.2-liter, 4-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine, delivering 90 hp of power and 113 Nm of torque. Gearbox choices include a 5-speed manual or an AMT. Additionally, they offer a 1.0-liter, 3-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine generating 100 hp of power and 147 Nm of torque, with gearbox options comprising a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic. Both models are also equipped with a factory-fitted CNG kit, which delivers 77.5 PS and 98.5 Nm of torque in CNG mode, exclusively paired with the manual gearbox.
